John 5:17 says, But Jesus answered them, “My Father has been working until now, and I have been working.” We know when Jesus went to heaven, He sat down at the right hand of the Father. Jesus intercedes for us, but what else do you think He has been doing? He is working on our behalf! In the verses right before this verse in the gospel of John, He was working miracles on the earth. A cripple had been made well. Jesus was concerned for those who were sick, and He still is! He was more concerned about helping people than impressing religious rulers. He seemed to be disinterested that the religious rulers wanted to kill him for helping people.
As Americans, we are known as people who help others. We are known for being benevolent. America is a great land, filled with amazing people. God bless America! How thankful we are for the freedoms we enjoy here. God has blessed us immeasurably, and we are so proud to be Americans. America is a land of abundance and blessing, and it is interesting to notice that there aren’t too many people trying to leave the USA, but lots and lots of people trying to find their way here to live in our great land. As you think about this scripture of Jesus working on your behalf, I encourage you to remember as we prepare to celebrate America’s freedom, that someone worked so we could have it. People gave their lives so we could live in the land of the free and the home of the brave. And even more importantly, Jesus also worked so that we could have freedom! He bought our freedom on the cross, and freely gave us all things to enjoy on this earth. Let’s always remember the sacrifice.
