Once you have experienced love, you realize that it is wider and deeper than we can even fathom with our human brain. God’s love is so complete that He totally washes away our sin, and removes it from us, as far as the east is from the west. I love what Corrie Ten Boom used to say. God puts our sin in the lake of forgetfulness, and puts up a sign that says NO FISHING! God’s love covers our sin. It is removed, it is forgotten. Humans often are grudge holders. We get offended, we carry someone else’s offense, and often we get derailed. Unforgiveness is like being in handcuffs. It binds us up. Often the other person goes on with their life, but we get stuck, can’t move or do anything, paralyzed because we are holding bitterness, resentment and unforgiveness. Part of the Lord’s prayer says this:
“Forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors”
God assumes that since we have been forgiven much, we will forgive much. You would think that would come naturally for us humans, but it doesn’t. We have to make a choice to forgive. We have to choose not to walk in offenses. We have to make a conscious decision not to harbor ill feelings toward anyone. Sure we have the opportunity. But the choice is ours….a no regrets life is one where forgiveness flows freely. We have been loved, let’s love and forgive lavishly!
