Intro:
Hi kids, this is Dorette with an encouraging word for kids today. As school approaches, I’ m sure you are going through clothes, and discovering that you have outgrown lots of your stuff. We are talking today about being a good steward, and that applies to clothes as well. What we don’t need, we can give away to someone who does. Be encouraged today to be a giver! Here is your eword for kids today.

I know you are hearing about it all the time. Everyone, everywhere is telling you to be green! Green is a good thing! God was the first one who told us to take care of the earth, so it is kind of cool that the world is finally catching on! The Bible tells us to be good stewards of what we have. Stewardship is usually a word attached to money and giving, but it really relates to every area of our life. Good stewardship is basically taking care of what we have and not wasting resources. Because we are a land of abundance, we freely waste on a regular basis. This should not be so! We are so blessed! But that is a good reason to be more conscious of being a good steward and not less of one. Those who have been given much are responsible for much. So what we do have should be cherished and taken care of. How can we be more conscious of taking care of the earth? The biggest thing we can do is begin to be thoughtful and thankful. When we realize that 17% of the world’s population goes to bed hungry every night, it should make us thankful for the food we get to enjoy. When we realize that lots of kids don’t even have one pair of shoes and we have 10, we should be thankful. We should think about others and how we can bless them. So next time you are about to throw something away that could be used by someone else, or shouldn’t be wasted, remember to think and then thank. Think about how blessed you are and thank God for the abundance in your life that you get to share with someone else. That’s good stewardship!
