New Wine Acts 2:13-15

One of the most important decisions in my life after choosing to become a Christian was to be spirit filled. We are continuing to talk about the Holy Spirit and how He can empower us to do great things for God. Hi, this is Dorette Schaal with your dailyeword. The Holy Spirit is relevant for us, because Jesus said when He went away, that the Holy Spirit would be here with us to stay. What a promise. Let’s learn some more about the work of the Holy Spirit in you!

June 2 New Wine Act 2:13-15
I am always so amazed by scriptures in the Bible that prophesy something that was to happen later. In Acts chapter 2, the 120 people in the upper room were filled with the Holy Spirit. It was spectacular. There was wind, and fire, and new strange languages. It was unusual to say the least! People on the outside were a little baffled. What on earth was happening? Were these people drunk?

Peter was the first to answer. He said, no they are not drunk, but they are fulfilling the prophesy spoken by Joel, that God had poured out His Spirit on all flesh. This wasn’t alcohol, this was not wine! This was power from on high, that empowered each believer to be bolder in their witness for Christ, and to receive power! Just exactly what this New Testament Church needed. And so it began. Power and anointing began to move whenever the Word of God was preached. People were amazed that Peter who had just a little while before been a wimpy Christian denying Christ, was now a pumped up, on fire, dynamo for God. He was a preaching machine, with amazing results every time he opened his mouth to speak. New wine, the Baptism of the Holy Spirit is what made the difference. Are you wanting more power and anointing in your life? Getting filled with the Spirit is the perfect place to start.

Receptive Learning Pro 4:1-10

Have you ever come to the spot where you think you have learned enough? Or perhaps you have studied the Bible enough times, you don’t think you need to keep on learning? Consider this thought quoted by my husband, Lynn Schaal, “Our learning stops when we are not receptive to new things.”
Our good friend, Paul Tierney once said about teaching young cowboys the skills that he is an expert in,, …. “I can’t teach them anything because they are too busy showing me what they know.”
Prov. 10:8 says this, “The wise in heart will receive commands, But a babbling fool will fall.”
Prov. 19:20 Listen to counsel and receive instruction, That you may be wise in your latter days.
Obviously one of the secrets to Solomon’s wisdom was his willingness to receive.
Here’s what he said in Proverbs….
Prov. 4:10 Hear, my son, and receive my sayings, And the years of your life will be many.
One of the most beautiful things about being filled with the Spirit of God is that we can become more and more sensitive to the voice of God. We are His sheep, and the more we listen, the better we can hear His voice. The quicker we can be obedient, because we aren’t questioning is this really God, is this me, is this the devil. A sheep knows and is receptive to the shepherds voice. We can know our Savior’s voice, understand His instruction, and follow through in teaching what we know to someone else. Let’s not just be busy doing our thing, let’s be busy doing God’s thing. What we have been receptive to learn, let’s put into practice, and then the promise will be ours for a long, fulfilling life on the earth.

Teach All Nations Matt 29:20

I wonder how many of us hear the Great Commission to go into all the world and teach all nations and think, I’m so glad someone else is doing that, so it doesn’t have to be my deal. What is interesting about being a part of the body of Christ is that each of us has a function, just like our physical bodies do. Even things that we think might be unnecessary, like eyelashes, really do have a function. They keep dust and grim from getting into our eyes. So every person in the body of Christ has a function too. Our function is to be an active working part of the body. Body parts that don’t function get removed, like an appendix. If it doesn’t work, it comes out. You may be thinking I see where this is going, if I don’t go, I’ll be kicked out of the body. No, don’t go there! Where we should go is this, since I am part of this amazing body, called the family of God, and the body of Christ, what can I do to make my part function at it best capacity. Instead of looking for how little we can do for the body, we should be asking, how can I be most effective in the body. Where am I to go, who am I to teach? How can I do the job God has for me most effectively? If we don’t have a specific directive, we can start where we are. Be a light at home, in your neighborhood, in your workplace, in the marketplace, in your church, in your community. Be ready to share what you have learned from the Word. To teach all nations, you can start where you are. Be willing.

Go Ye Matt 28:19

The Promise of the Father was given to the Church on the Day of Pentecost. This amazing event was the sealing of the NEW COVENANT that God had established with His people. For the last several days we have been in Matt 28 looking at some of the last words of Jesus before he left the earth for heaven, and what He thought was important to convey to his disciples and followers before the outpouring of the Holy Spirit. There were some specifics that have been Jesus’ directive to us, since before He ascended to heaven. His words were simple. He said go.
Jesus knew that to do this big job He put before us, we couldn’t do it alone. We needed some extra power, and that power was what He promised and delivered on the day of Pentecost. So His end of the bargain was completed. His promise was fulfilled. What he wants from us is that we fulfill our end of the deal now! His message is still the same. Are we willing to say yes to “go”? The where of the go isn’t specific, because each of us has a different mission field to reach. Are we willing to get off of our couch and put some shoes on and walk out the door? Are we willing to ask where it is that God wants us to go? Sometimes it is just to be willing to be available wherever we are, to look for the divine assignment God has for you on that specific day. It may be that you never leave your home country, but you evangelize your neighborhood. Or maybe God has called you to go far away. Let’s be the ones who say yes, every time we hear God whisper to our heart. Be a willing follower, wherever He leads!

A Message of Encouragement Matt 28:18

Christ’s message to His disciples and to us is a message of Encouragement!
All authority that was Christ’s, is made available for our use. We don’t have to obey the Great Commission using only our human skills and ability. We have the Authority of Christ with which to operate in. We see example of this time after time in the rest of the New Testament. He will be with us until His commission is fulfilled. Praise God we are not alone! He will never leave us or forsake us.

We are to be about doing what our Lord told us to do. This message was not exclusive to the 11 disciples. This message was a message to anyone and everyone who would call themselves a follower of Jesus. With this in mind, we need to see to it that we take very seriously the directive of Christ. It wasn’t just a good idea, it was a God idea. God’s plan for us!

Now we have a purpose that is to love God AND love people! Now we are encouraged to be like Jesus wherever we are and whatever we do. Our purpose on the earth isn’t all that complicated. Love God. Love People. Be a lover! In a world that is full of everything else, we get to be the positive voice of encouragement by our actions and our words. Empowered by the Holy Spirit we can be an encourager to the people in our world. Why not start today, you can bring the message encouragement until the whole world knows

A Message of Purpose Matt 28:16-18

What is the very last thing Jesus told His disciples before He ascended to heaven?
What was His message? We can find it in Matthew 28:16-20

Matt. 28:16 Then the eleven disciples went away into Galilee, to the mountain which Jesus had appointed for them.
Matt. 28:17 When they saw Him, they worshiped Him; but some doubted.
Matt. 28:18 And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.
Matt. 28:19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
Matt. 28:20 teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.

Christ’s message to the disciples and to us is a message of Purpose!

1. He said GO!!!! (That is His MISSIONARY call)

2. He said TEACH!!! (That is His PASTORAL call)

Jesus still has that same message for us. In fact, that was what we have been empowered to do as Spirit filled believers. We have power to be a witness, and are told to share the good news, right where we are, and then all around us. It is easy tell someone else to go, but we can go to our next door neighbor. We can go to the hurting in our own community. And you can teach! Teaching is just sharing what God has done for you. Tell your testimony. Jesus has made a difference in your life. It is your message to share. So go and tell!

Love One Another John 13:35

“Let me give you a new command: Love one another. In the same way I loved you, you love one another. This is how everyone will recognize that you are my disciples—when they see the love you have for each other.”
I love to read this passage in The Message Bible. This is the essence of the Gospel! We love one another. When we do, people can tell that we love Jesus! We have all heard the songs that say all we need is love, or what the world needs now is love sweet love, or love is all you need, and if we are talking about the God kind of love, that certainly is all true. The love of God is enough! It is more than enough! So here is a tough question for you; when someone looks at you do you resemble a disciple of Jesus? Perhaps you think that how you act really shouldn’t be scrutinized by others, but guess what? Our lives are on display. On the big screen on your life, what are people watching? I know that feels like pressure to think your life is on display, but it is real life. What we can do is just be the person God has made you and called you to be. He has placed His love in your heart. You get to let it out, and live in His love, show His love, and give His love to others. It is a daily thing, 24/7, 365 days a year. It is the ultimate of surrender, because we choose to put our flesh under every day. We live the spirit filled life. We love. That’s how you look like Jesus!

Avoid Foolish Disputes 2 Tim 2:23

For several weeks, we have been talking about how the Holy Spirit can impact our lives, every single day. Hi, this is Dorette Schaal with your dailyeword. The Holy Spirit is our helper, comforter and guide, and He is with us to empower us to do great things on the earth. My prayer would be that each day you are recognizing the power of the Holy Spirit more and more in your life. This week’s dailyeword will be about the effects of having the Holy Spirit in your life. Each day gets better and better!

Happy Memorial Day today! We honor those who have given their lives for our freedom, and are thankful for those who have served and are currently serving in our military. I hope this day is a day of rest and relaxation for you! It is my birthday, so I will be celebrating and hopefully resting and relaxing too!
Today we are talking about how the Holy Spirit can impact our lives everyday. We all have to deal with very natural situations and often our flesh takes the lead. When the flesh wants to argue and complain, the spirit filled believer can do as it says in 2 Timothy chapter 2 in The Message translation.
“Run away from infantile indulgence. Run after mature righteousness—faith, love, peace—joining those who are in honest and serious prayer before God. Refuse to get involved in inane discussions; they always end up in fights. God’s servant must not be argumentative, but a gentle listener and a teacher who keeps cool, working firmly but patiently with those who refuse to obey. You never know how or when God might sober them up with a change of heart and a turning to the truth, enabling them to escape the Devil’s trap, where they are caught and held captive, forced to run his errands.”
It is so easy to follow the flesh and fall into silly, and sometimes negative discussions that lead to more negativity. As spirit filled believers, we can avoid arguments and discussions that lead to fights. We can be the one who is cool and patient, a listener who is led by the Spirit and doesn’t rely or react in the flesh. It does seem hard in the natural realm, but we have power of God on the inside to rise above and live empowered by the Holy Spirit. We can watch our tongue, and be a peace maker. Why live any other way!

Speak Wholesome Words I Tim 6:3-5

Words are important. I think we know that well. I am all about speaking encouraging life filled words, but you probably know that already. ☺ That’s why I started writing dailyeword so many years ago. In I Tim 6, verse 3 – 5, Timothy talks about the importance of wholesome words. The word wholesome actually means good, health giving, and nourishing. What kind of words come from your mouth? Would you say people feel nourished by the words you speak? Probably a lot of us speak lovely words in public and to people we don’t know, but to our spouses or our kids, something other than wholesome words come out. The ones we love the most should really hear the best words. How can we have a more godly mouth. Godliness looks like this according to I Tim 6: it isn’t proud, not envious, not filled with strife or disputes, and is filled with the truth. Our mouth can be evidence of the spirit filled life. We can hold our tongue when necessary. We can speak truth. We can appreciate others things, without being envious. And most of all, we can dispel strife and disputes, by not engaging in the banter of slinging mud back and forth. Our lips can bring life! The words we speak can be wholesome! Why not start today, monitoring how you speak and keep a bridle on your tongue!

Overcome Strife I Cor 3:3

Don’t you wish that we could all be mature, all the time? I think Paul was at the frustration point with believers in I Corinthians 3, because he says that he can’t speak to the believers like they were mature, because they were acting like children. If you are around 2 -5 year olds, their world revolves around them. They want a toy, they get it. They don’t care how, they get focused on something, and then go after it. It can be a good quality, but usually it involves taking the toy away from somebody else. As adults we should stay focused on our goals, but not to the exclusion of other people or their feelings. Paul told the believers in I Corinthians 3 that they were acting like they were carnal. Their actions showed that they were acting just like ordinary unbelievers, instead of who they really were, children of the most high God. Once we become a Christian, our maturity level is up to us. We can grow at a glacial pace, or at the speed of light, well, not really. But we determine how fast we grow in Christ by the time we spend in the Word, and with the accountability of other believers. To be able to overcome any negative emotion, sometimes it takes going back to the basics. Put some mortar in the bricks of your foundation and start from the ground up. Let’s be spirit filled believers who overcome strife. We can do this, and shine our light in a dark world.
