Free to Serve Others John 8:31,32

Do you remember this song? He whom the Son sets free is free indeed, completely liberated from the curse of the law. It continues….He whom the son sets free is free indeed, free to be a servant of the most high God. It’s an oldie, with a 2 great truths wrapped up in those first two lines. What a wonderful privilege we have in Christ….we can be completely liberated from the curse of the law. The Bible says that the law was the school master, to lead us to Christ, and true liberty. Jesus told the Jews who had believed Him in John 8:31 and 32, that “If you hold to My teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” He was talking about the freedom from being slaves to sin. And in John 8, verse 36, he reiterates His point. So if the Son has set you free, you will be free indeed. The next line in the song talks about servanthood. When we are set free from the slavery of sin, we are free to be servants to God. It sounds a little bit backward, that freedom in Christ, makes you free to serve, but the Kingdom of God is a bit opposite to the world’s system. Our freedom makes us want to serve, not only God but others too. I encourage you today, to serve someone as proof of your freedom in Christ!

Free indeed John 8:36

Freedom isn’t free, it cost somebody something. I love looking in history books, and reading about people who gave their lives for something great. You think about some of the events in our own American history and we are thankful for people who were committed to liberty, so much so that they said, Give me freedom, whatever the cost. Patrick Henry on March 23, 1775 stood up in Virginia’s House of Burgess and said, there is no room for hope….the situation had gone from bad to worse. He continued, if we want to be free, we have to fight. 3 million people armed with the cause of liberty, began the American War for Independence with these words….. “We shall not fight alone, God presides over the destinies of nations, and will raise up friends for us. The battle is not for the strong alone, it is for the vigilant, the active, the brave….Is life so dear, or peace so sweet as to be purchased at the price of chains and slavery? Forbid it Almighty God. I know not what course others may take, but as for me, give me liberty or give me death.” What powerful words. He knew a secret that I believe he found in the Word of God. Once you’ve tasted freedom, you never want to go back into bondage. He whom the Son sets free is free indeed, completely liberated from the curse of the law. (John 8:36) Remember the freedoms you enjoy today, and thank God that Jesus has set you free.

Fountain of Life Acts 2:33

As a nation we love to celebrate Independence Day. We are grateful that we live in a free land where we can serve God. Hi this is Dorette Schaal with your dailyeword. The 4th of July is as much about freedom as it is independence. Being free is awesome! What a joy to know Christ and have total freedom because of our relationship with Him. Sin no longer has to have a hold on us. During July we are talking about our freedom to be fruitful! Our fruitfulness in life is up to us….we can grow slowly, or we can speed up the process by our diligence. You have the freedom to choose….Let’s choose to be abundantly fruitful! One of the greatest joys in my life is worshipping God through music. I love to sing and play before the Lord and worship God in totally freedom. I can remember back so well at the time in my life when I was just beginning to walk into the understanding of living the Spirit-led, Spirit-controlled life. I can recall having the urge to lift my hands to the Lord but feeling very self-conscious about it. I was sitting next to a friend in a worship service and she must have known from the outside the struggle I had going on in the inside. She whispered in my ear…. “it really won’t hurt to lift your hands, and it will probably bring you more freedom than you’ve ever known.” You know what? She was right. I went from being totally self-conscious about worshipping God to total freedom and a greater consciousness of God than ever before. Simply breaking through something in the natural realm, moved me into a greater depth of freedom than I had ever experienced before. Now I love the freedom I have to worship God with all my might – and with my mind, soul and strength. Since we have this fountain of life on the inside of us, we can worship God with total freedom! We have received this wonderful gift of the Holy Spirit, and now we can live in freedom. Perhaps you are feeling bound in an area of your life…..sometimes just doing something in the natural breaks you through to greater freedom. For me it came by lifting my hands. Now I don’t even think about it. I worship God freely all the time. You can find freedom in the Holy Spirit

Life Giver John 5:21

I love babies! I loved having babies, and love holding babies, and I can’t wait to get to be a grandma. Babies are the best! God is the Giver of Life, and life in all forms is a blessing. In Deuteronomy God lays it out very plainly. We are given the option for life or death, and here is the big hint, choose life! We can choose life by the words we speak. If we want healthy relationships, we speak life- giving words of love and affirmation. There is the power of life and death in our words. Let’s speak words that build and edify to our kids, to our spouses, really to everyone we come in contact with. Jesus said in John 5:21 that God gives life, and so does Jesus. We get to choose life everyday by our words, but also by our actions. A life giver is a server. We find ways to help. All we have to do is look at Jesus, who as a life giver, looked to help and bless people wherever He went. We don’t serve and bless for recognition, or so that others can see us. We serve and bless because the Life Giver lives on the inside of us. It is God’s nature and His nature is inside of us. Why not see how you can bless with your words and action, and be a life giver today.

Greater Works John 5:20

I think we can say that Jesus did some pretty amazing things while He was on the earth. He went about doing good, and healing all who were oppressed by the devil. He taught about the principles of the kingdom and basically frustrated the religious leaders, because His only agenda was to love and help people. He didn’t care if He healed someone on the Sabbath, or if they didn’t like what He was preaching or teaching about.

John 5:20 says that Jesus only did what God showed Him, and that God would even do greater works than Jesus was doing on the earth. I can remember as a kid asking myself, what could be greater than what Jesus did? After Jesus resurrection and ascension, we can now be born again. We can have a brand new spirit, one that is alive to God. A spirit that can hear and know the voice of God. A spirit that can have the life of God flowing through our veins.

The greatest part of all is that we are now family. God is our Father. He is our protector, our provider, our help in time of need. He is our Friend, our counselor, our guide, and one we can depend on. What can be greater than that! The bonus is that we get a home in heaven when we die. A wonderful life on finite earth, and then a fabulous home in infinite heaven. Sounds pretty great to me!

Child of God 1 John 3:1

How amazing is the love of God. How wonderful for us to know that because of God’s great love, we are now called children of God. Probably most of you know that we have an adopted son. Going through the whole process of adoption really is complicated and expensive. I never had a clue before our experience, and ours was less complicated and less expensive than most adoptions. Still, it is nothing compared to what God did in sending His Son to earth in the form of a baby, to grow up to die for us and rise again, and defeat the enemy so that we could be a part of God’s family. We are God’s adopted sons and daughters!

All through the ages, since the beginning of time, when Adam and Eve fell in the garden, God had been planning a way to get His family back. It was all for love! How wide, how deep and expansive is God’s love for us. When we get a revelation of how much God loves us, I really believe that our own families will benefit. When we know how much we are loved, it makes it easy to love someone else. As parents, we want the best for our children. Think of it from God’s perspective. He wants the best for every one of his children, around the globe. Right now that is over 7 billion people. He doesn’t want any to die without knowing Him. As a parent, I have 5 kids, plus the bonus kids we get from our children finding a mate. My prayer for them is that they would always know God’s love and walk in His blessing. It’s quite manageable to pray for the 10 potential kids I will have, when we include their spouses. Think about God, with the weight of all humanity on His shoulders, caring for, loving, providing for all the ones who have joined His family. He’s got big shoulders, and we know He will care for us!

God of Peace Eph 2:14-18

Peace is a beautiful word. In Hebrew the word is Shalom which means nothing missing and nothing broken. In Israel, instead of saying hello, or even goodbye, people exchange the greeting of Shalom. What a lovely way to speak words of encouragement over everyone you meet. We know that when Jesus came, He came to bring peace in a world of turmoil, unrest and distress. He came to be the Prince of Peace, the counselor, and our mighty God. Lots of people in our world get stressed out. Overloaded schedules can take a toll on our mind and our health. Take a deep breath! Let me speak shalom into your life. Let me speak peace to your soul. We really are too blessed to be stressed. We have the Prince of Peace living within us, so there is no reason to get stressed or live in a state of frustration or turmoil during any time of the year. Can we learn to rest in the peace of God? I believe we can. Peace is more than just a greeting, and more than just a sign we use to say we don’t like war, peace is an attitude that can prevail in our hearts and lives year round. Let’s live in a constant state of peace! When we look at the big picture, we have found what we are looking for. Jesus, who is at the center of our heart, came to fill in the missing pieces in our lives. He came to fix everything in our lives that was broken. So we can say about ourselves, Shalom, nothing is missing and nothing is broken. Because He came to fill us, we can live in peace, radiate peace, and be peacemakers in a world that is empty and broken. He is our peace who has broken down every wall. So speak Shalom to your own soul, and then begin speaking it to those around you. Make this day more peace-filled than ever, and enjoy everyday in the peace of God. SHALOM!

Abundant Wisdom Eph 1:16-22

I absolutely love the prayers in Ephesians, and specifically the prayer for Spiritual Wisdom in Eph 1 verses 16-22. Here is what it says:

15 Therefore I also, after I heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all the saints, 16 do not cease to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers: 17 that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, 18 the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, 19 and what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power 20 which He worked in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places, 21 far above all principality and power and might and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in that which is to come. 22 And He put all things under His feet, and gave Him to be head over all things to the church, 23 which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all.

Verse 17 is such a big deal. Paul is praying that we would have the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of God. We need wisdom every day of our life. It is necessary for us to put into practice what we know. That is how wisdom and knowledge go hand in hand. What do we know for sure about God? We know He loves us, He has a wonderful plan for our life, and that He is good. Let’s get a good understanding of that revelation. We can pray this same prayer over our families, our pastors and even our political leaders. Let us walk in the revelation of who God is, and walk in His spirit of wisdom every single day.

Working on Our Behalf John 5:17

John 5:17 says, But Jesus answered them, “My Father has been working until now, and I have been working.” We know when Jesus went to heaven, He sat down at the right hand of the Father. Jesus intercedes for us, but what else do you think He has been doing? He is working on our behalf! In the verses right before this verse in the gospel of John, He was working miracles on the earth. A cripple had been made well. Jesus was concerned for those who were sick, and He still is! He was more concerned about helping people than impressing religious rulers. He seemed to be disinterested that the religious rulers wanted to kill him for helping people.

As Americans, we are known as people who help others. We are known for being benevolent. America is a great land, filled with amazing people. God bless America! How thankful we are for the freedoms we enjoy here. God has blessed us immeasurably, and we are so proud to be Americans. America is a land of abundance and blessing, and it is interesting to notice that there aren’t too many people trying to leave the USA, but lots and lots of people trying to find their way here to live in our great land. As you think about this scripture of Jesus working on your behalf, I encourage you to remember as we prepare to celebrate America’s freedom, that someone worked so we could have it. People gave their lives so we could live in the land of the free and the home of the brave. And even more importantly, Jesus also worked so that we could have freedom! He bought our freedom on the cross, and freely gave us all things to enjoy on this earth. Let’s always remember the sacrifice.

Lavish Giver Matt 7:11

We have been talking about God as our Father and how much he loves and cares for us His children. He is an Awesome God! Hi, this is Dorette Schaal with your dailyeword. God’s nature is to give, and He gives so much to us. On top of all the wonderful blessings we receive from God, we have his peace, a spirit of wisdom, and His very life flowing through us. I’m so thankful for a heavenly Father like Him. Let’s choose to be like Him. Here is your daily eword.

I love hearing about generous people giving to worthy causes. So often we think that only people with ridiculous amounts of money are generous. But generosity is not dependent on earning huge amounts of money. If we look at how God measures generosity, it isn’t even tied to our income, or how much we make. We give back to God the tithe, which is 10% of our income. The tithe is a measure of our obedience. Above and beyond our tithe is how we measure generosity. God’s giving nature now lives in us! God set it up this way. Here is what Jesus said in Matt 7:

“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened. 9 Or what man is there among you who, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? 10 Or if he asks for a fish, will he give him a serpent? 11 If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!

Our Father is the giver of good gifts. They don’t come automatically, Jesus actually says we have to ask! It says in James as well, that we have not, because we ask not. Amazing to think that God really wants us to ask. As lavish as a giver as He is, He wants us to ask for what we desire. We know that Ps 37:4 says that God will give us the desires of our heart. What do you desire? It is a question Jesus often asked when He walked the earth. Let’s be lavish givers, and let’s remember to be asker! And it will be given to you, so you can be a lavish giver to others.
