I love the 23rd Psalm and the picture of peace that it brings. When things are shaking all around us, finding peace is what we long for. We need God’s peace when we are walking through any valley. We need God’s peace when the storms of life are threatening all around us. We need God’s peace in our homes, in our relationships, in our families, in our jobs, in our churches, in our nation and in our world. Every corner of life functions better when there is nothing missing and nothing broken. That is the actual definition of Shalom, which is the peace of God, nothing missing, nothing broken. One thing we notice about sheep is that they like peace. They won’t drink from a fast brook. They like still water. The Lord is our Shepherd, he feeds, guides and shields us. In God there is no lack, and we are completely satisfied in Him. We have no wants. He leads us to the place where we can drink from still and restful waters. Like sheep we see out in the pasture thrive on finding a peaceful place to rest and drink, we too need to find that place of peace. We function better when things are peaceful. When we find a place a peace, we don’t have to be afraid, because we know God is with us. We can be comforted, because we know we are under God’s authority and supported by his rod and staff. He even prepares a feast for us in the presence of our enemies. That sounds like a victory meal to me! I hope you can experience the peace of God in your life, today and every day.
