Fit for our King

As the Olympics approaches, it is natural for us to think about getting fit. We can recognize the discipline it takes to be an Olympian. Hi, this is Dorette Schaal with an encouraging word for your day. Being physically fit takes self control, and we do need to maintain and take care of what is entrusted to us. This week in honor of the Olympics, we will talk about caring for our bodies….the temple of the of the Holy Spirit. Here is your dailyeword.

Monday
Our physical bodies are a blessing to us each day. Our heart pumps blood that is filled with oxygen because our lungs breath in air. Our limbs move because that same oxygen has reached our brain and tell our body what we want it to do. Our bodies, whether we like our shape or not, are a gift from God. He calls our bodies the temple of the Holy Spirit, and if we think about that phrase, we are housing “God” in our bodies! Truly jars of clay holding a valuable treasure. How have you been treating your temple? I know there are times when my own body gets mistreated, with not enough rest, or too much mental strain, or even too much physical labor. When we think about the treasure we are holding, we should treat our bodies royally. They should be well cared for, because they are the only ones we get in this life on the earth. So this week, I want you to think about this question. Are there some adjustments that you need to make so that your body can be the best for God? I know all of us can probably answer yes to that!

How is my overall health? Do I have the power to improve my health by my choices of what goes into my body? Am I drinking enough water to be properly hydrated? How about my sleep patterns? Do I get enough rest and feel rejuvenated when I wake up in the morning? Do I drag through each day in a fog, longing for a nap? Am I good at dealing with the stresses of life? Do I let life and it’s circumstances overwhelm me? Am I willing to cast my cares on the Lord, and leave them there? Do I get enough exercise for my body type? Am I willing to let go of the couch, and put on my walking shoes?

I hope you are not saying ouch! When it all comes down to the basics, we know what we should do, the question is, are we doing it. This week, I hope we take it to the next level. Let’s not only know what is right to do, let’s start doing it. Sounds like a faith principle doesn’t it? Let’s not only be hearers, let’s be doers! Just do it, and feel fantastic!
