Spiritual Fathers 1 Cor 4:15

Do you have a mentor? Is there someone in your life who is there for you to give you spiritual guidance? Having a pastor is to guide you is so important, but finding another believer who can walk beside you is also vital to our Christian walk. I love it that I have a spouse who I can talk to about spiritual things. He happens to also be my pastor! We bounce ideas off of one another, and when I have a question, he usually has an answer! But I have friends in my life who do the same thing. When I am struggling with parenting an almost teenage son, I talk to my friends who have already succeeded! I talk to God. I talk to my husband. Having people in my life who I can discuss ideas with is so valuable. Paul mentions how important it is to not just have instructors in your life, but to have a spiritual father. Listen to what Paul says I Cor 4:14-16

14 I do not write these things to shame you, but as my beloved children I warn you. 15 For though you might have ten thousand instructors in Christ, yet you do not have many fathers; for in Christ Jesus I have begotten you through the gospel. 16 Therefore I urge you, imitate me.

I heard someone say this once, and it is so true: You either are a pastor or you need one. Even though there are a lot of people who think church is obsolete, or irrelevant, Jesus gave the gift of pastors to us, to pastor us. Pastors are needed for a church to operate! Each of us needs a pastor. Even pastors need pastors! I’m so grateful that my husband has his childhood pastor to get advise from. His years of experience are a valuable resource. So my advise to you is, be around people who build into your life! Have a good pastor who teaches you the Word! And then value those spiritual fathers! They are God’s gift to you.
