Believe Right, Behave Right

The culmination of the book Shame off You, is in the final chapters when Alan Wright says that your Christian life is not a modification of the Old Covenant, it is totally new. Because of Jesus taking our place, it means that our role is not to keep the covenant, but to abide in the One who has already kept the covenant. (John 15). It is not up to us to measure up. It is not up to us to perform better or more perfectly. There is no sacrifice left to make. We could never do it perfectly, but Jesus already has! There is no chance that the New Covenant will fail. When we are IN CHRIST, we cannot be separated from the benefits of the covenant. It really was finished on the cross. We can’t add anything by our performance to His victory….it is complete. There is no striving left to do – just surrendering, with a heart gratitude. It is a done deal….no more shame on me. It is shame off of me. And it is shame off you! You do belong to the body of Christ. You have the potential to believe right, and when you do, you will behave right!
